BTLN PREVIEW - WINTERSLAM 13


 
 
It is Winterslam 13 (boxing) this week at Battalion! Dylan is the back to back Winterslam Champion! Can Dylan win boxing three years in a row? Will Luke, Jakob, Alex or Dane take home the Belt for the first time? Could we have a surprise Champion? I can't wait to find out! Good luck to all!

Remember, there are two divisions. (Grades 7-9 Lightweight Division) (Grades 10-12, Heavyweight Division) Make sure that you are early! Bring a friend!

BTLN UPDATE - MIKE NIGHT




Congrats Keegan! This was Keegan's second Helmet of the Btln Season! It was good to have Keegan back at Btln! Deshawn was in second place looking for his third Helmet of the Btln season. The third Helmet of Season has been elusive this year. Each Helmet is harder to win than the last one.

This was our third and final Mike Night of the 2017/18 Btln Season. I don't think that there has ever been a game of Mike that was this close. At each interval all four teams were within three or four points of each other. Half way through, the scores were two teams tied at 53, and two teams tied at 56!

This week our Bible Study topic was "The Fruits of the Spirit".

Galatians 5:22-23   But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

We looked at some of God's examples of the fruits of the Spirit.

1) LOVE
Romans 5:8   But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

2) JOY
Hebrews 12:2   Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

3) PEACE
Romans 5:1   Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,


4) PATIENCE
2 Peter 3:9   The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

5) KINDNESS
Ephesians 2:6-7   And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

6) GOODNESS
2 Peter 1:2-3   Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.


7) FAITHFULNESS
1 Thessalonians 5:23-24   May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.


8) GENTLENESS
Matthew 11:28-30   “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

9) SELF-CONTROL
James 1:13   When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone;



Next week is Winterslam 13 (Boxing) at Btln! (6:45-9:00 p.m.) Wednesday, February 28th.

BTLN UPDATE




Congrats Neighbour! This was Isaac's second Helmet of the Btln Season! Dane was there with Isaac at the end, but came up a little short. Better luck next time Dane!

GeRRald came out to Btln this week! With John Van and GeRRald at Btln, it was retro night at Btln! (It is so good to have Alumni on a Wednesday Night!)

This week we played Mike 23 for the last time this Btln year. The scores rose and fell every mini game. After each mini game there was also a different team in the lead. Btln chaos at it's very best!

In Bible Study our topic was "The Gift"

Romans 4:4-5   Now to the one who works, wages are not credited as a gift but as an obligation. However, to the one who does not work but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness.

Romans 6:23   For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ephesians 2:8-9   For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.

2 Timothy 1:9-10   He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.

These passages make it abundantly clear, that we cannot earn eternal life. In fact, God's gift is for those that don't work! All we have to do is receive God's free gift!

BTLN UPDATE - THE MILL





Congrats Luke! This was Luke's third Helmet of the Btln Season! Luke has increased his lead in the race for Winston to two Helmets! Dane was there at the end with Luke and almost had his second Helmet of the season. Dane is overdue for a win in Bulldog.

This week we played "The Mill" for only the second time ever! We added a Lightweight line (grade 7-9) to make things easier on the younger guys. I believe the spacing was 6 feet for the Heavyweights and 7 feet for the Lightweights. The game was very close, needing double overtime to break the draw! I'm thinking of adding a Train Round next year!

In the Bible Study our Topic was Love.

1 John 4:7-8   Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

1) Love comes from God and God himself is Love!

John 15:13   Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

Romans 5:7-8   Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

2) The greatest act of Love would be dying for a friend. Jesus took this one step further, he died for us while we were still sinners!

Romans 8:38-39   For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

3) Nothing can separate us from the Love of God!

Psalm 103:11   For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him;

1 Corinthians 2:9   However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”— the things God has prepared for those who love him— 


Ephesians 3:17b-19   And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

4) God's Love for us is so great that it can't be measured! God's love is beyond what our minds can conceive. While on earth, we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg when it comes to understanding God's Love for us. When we get to Heaven, then we will "know fully, (God's Love) even as we are fully known."

BTLN UPDATE




Congrats Kaylon! This was Kaylon's first Helmet of the Btln Season! Jakob was there at the end with Kaylon, but the group was not going to let Jakob win his third Helmet before Kaylon had won his first Helmet! I love how hard the guys compete, but are still happy for each other at the end of the night!

Last week Noah had me sign a contract that we would play Murderball this week if John Van came out for the second week in a row. We were blessed with John's presence, so that meant that we would be playing Murderball for the second time in three weeks! Dan's Team easily beat Devin's team the first two games, so Dan's team decided that they would not rush the middle at the beginning of the game, thinking that they would win anyways. Not rushing the middle was a bad decision, Devin's team easily winning the third game. The final game went the same as the first two, Dan's team taking the win! Dan's team winning 3-1!

For the first time ever we had the squad meetings written on a baseball lineup card! Yeah, you guessed it, Noah was leading the Bible study this week! Noah's topic was "Paul's summary of the Gospel, and how it applies."

1 Corinthians 15:1-5   Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve.

Noah pointed out that, Paul was highlighting the Gospel. Paul wanted us to pay special attention to what he was about to say. Paul summarizes the Gospel, he tells us that, Jesus died for our sins, that he was buried and that he was raised back to life on the third day!

Romans 8:33-34   Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.

Because of what Jesus did for us, we cannot be condemned! Now Jesus is in Heaven with God the Father, interceding for us!
