AARON FRIESEN

Aaron Friesen, the 12th Sergeant of CSB 3739 in Grand Forks has passed away. Aaron was our friend and brother. Aaron is now with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Psalm 116:15   Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his faithful servants.

2 Timothy 4:7-8   I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

Until we meet again in Heaven, we love you Aaron!

BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Josiah! At Josiah's second night of Battalion ever he has his first Helmet! I have not been keeping track, but I am fairly certain that winning the Helmet on your second week at Btln is a record!

This week we played Stickball for only the second time of the Btln year. There is not a lot of running around in Stickball, but there is a lot of strategy involved. After the first inning Cam's team had a three or four run lead, but was not able to hold onto the lead. Jason's team had a big second inning scoring five runs to take the lead and the win!

Stickball Final Scores
Jason's Team - 9
Cam's Team - 8
John's Team - 6
Lukas' Team - 6

In Bible study we finished our three part series, "Jesus is the Way", "Jesus is the Truth" and "Jesus is the Life".

John 14:6   Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Jesus himself is the Life!

John 1:1-4   In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.

In Jesus there is Life!

John 11:25   Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;

Jesus is the resurrection and the Life!

John 10:17-18   The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.”

Jesus had the authority to lay down his Life. Jesus also had the authority and power to give himself Life!

John 3:16   For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Whoever believes in Jesus will have eternal Life!

BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Riley! This was Riley's first Helmet of the Btln season! I checked the Btln Archives because I thought that this might be Riley's first Helmet, but I was wrong. Riley had one Helmet last year, making this Riley's second Helmet ever! So stoked for Riley! Josh was there at the end with Riley, but did not have as much forward progress as Riley on the final round.

With the power out earlier in the day, I wasn't sure what game we would play. Fortunately, the power came back on allowing us to play Murderball! Ryley's team won the first, third and fourth games, beating my team 3-1. My team just never got going.

In Bible study last week our topic was, "Jesus is the Way". This week our topic was, "Jesus is the Truth".

John 14:6   Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Jesus himself is the Truth.

John 1:14   The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Jesus came from the Father full of grace and Truth.

John 8:31-32   To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Jesus' teaching is Truth, and the Truth will set us free!

John 15:26   “When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me.

The Spirit of Truth testifies about Jesus.

Ephesians 1:13-14   And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

We are included in Christ when we believe the message of Truth!

BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Dylan! Dylan has been so close to winning so many times this year. I am guessing that it won't take nearly as long for Dylan to win his second Helmet. Dane was there at the end with Dylan, and only missed winning by three or four feet. Better luck next time Dane!

The game of the week was Handball. The game was very close, both teams scoring in bunches. When the score was tied at 11 we reset to zero. My team scored first and ended winning 3-1!
Props to Robbie, who took two balls to the face in less than a minute and didn't quit!

The Bible study topic this week was "Jesus is the way"

John 14:1-6   “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”
Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Acts 4:12   Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

Thomas did not understand the way to were Jesus was going. Most of humanity is just as confused as Thomas was. Jesus told Thomas that he (Jesus) was not just the way, but the only way!

Hebrews 12:2   Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Jesus endured the cross because he knew that it was the only way that we could be saved! There was no other way! Jesus was joyful because he knew what he was going to accomplish on the cross.

Romans 10:9-10   If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

12TH ANNUAL BTLN ALUMNI NIGHT

Alumni Night always has a different mix of guys, making every unique. This year we had 34 men at the 12th Btln Alumni Night! One of the highlights of Alumni Night is always giving away the Sergeant Jersey. This year it was Jeremy Feddersen's turn! Jeremy was the 11th Sergeant of Battalion 3739 in the 1997/98 Btln Season. Jeremy was the 20th Sergeant to receive his Jersey in our  "One forward and one back" Sergeant Jersey program! Congrats Jeremy!

We also added five names to the Btln Ring of Honour. This year we added the grads from 2004. Tim Feenstra, Mike Hughes, Kenny Johnson, Brad Pauls and Justin Thompson were all added to the Ring of Honour! It is not always possible to have the men that are being inducted available for Alumni Night, but that does not mean that we don't celebrate! (Maybe we will be able to have some of these Legends next year!) We were able to take a picture with Brad on the 24th, it is so good to add the names of these Btln Legends! Congrats to Tim, Mike, Kenny, Brad and Justin! We are all very proud of you!

As in the past, we played Murderball. The details are a little fuzzy now, it has been almost two weeks. We played five games, and I am pretty sure my team came out ahead 3-2! At least that is the way I remember it.

I am never sure if I should be making changes to our order of events on Alumni Night. This year I suggested that maybe we would not play British Bulldog. I was quickly informed by the group that we could not have Alumni Night without Bulldog!
Luke started in the middle for Bulldog, keeping another Alumni tradition alive. The current Sergeant is usually the one that starts in the middle for Alumni Bulldog.
It has to be the most dangerous Bulldog of the year! So many really big guys!
Joe Kraftchick was our Bulldog winner! Congrats Joe!

We finished the night visiting in the Youth room. It was so good to watch the guys sharing stories and laughing together! I can't wait until next year!

Thanks to everyone that came out to Alumni Night!
