BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Josh! This was Josh's first Helmet ever! Jakob was there with Josh at the end. It seems like Jakob is always in the final two or three at the end of Bulldog. I guess that's why Jakob is the reigning Winston Champion! It is always so good to see one of the boys win Bulldog for the first time! A tip of the hat to Josh for his first Helmet!

This week we played Handball for only the second time this year! Not having lines on the floor is a challenge, but Noah has risen to the occasion and set up lines for us. Thanks Noah! The game was actually very close. The score was 19-19 before we went to overtime! In the overtime my team scored three very quickly. The close exciting finish that we usually have wasn't in the cards.

In Bible Study our topic was "Joy"

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18   Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:4   Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

The question we were trying to answer was, "How can we always be joyful?" Or, "How can we rejoice in the Lord always?"

Romans 15:13   May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Galatians 5:22-23   But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Part of the answer is, God wants to fill us with joy! It is not natural for us to be joyful, but one of the fruits of the Spirit that God provides us with, is joy!

Hebrews 12:1   Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

This last passage tells us that Jesus was joyful even though he had to endure the cross. Jesus did not enjoy the pain of the cross. Jesus was joyful because of what his suffering was going to accomplish!

When life gets tough we need to look to our future in eternity with Jesus! This should bring us joy even in difficult circumstances! We are not expected to enjoy the pain that we have to endure in this world. We are asked to look forward to all that Jesus is going to provide, which is more than we can ask for or imagine!

BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Deshawn! Deshawn now has two Helmets. Deshawn has the early lead in the Winston race! Luke and Keegan were there at the end with Deshawn, but it was Deshawn winning for the second time in four weeks!

Our game of the week was Murderball Defender! Murderball Defender is Murderball plus ten Mike 23 exercise balls! It changes the game just enough to change the strategies needed to win. The wins went back and forth, and we ended with a 2-2 game tie! Because the games last longer, we ran out of time. Defender is a lot of fun, and seems to raise the energy level in the gym.

Our Bible study topic this week was Righteousness.

Romans 3:10-12   As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.”

If none of us are righteous, then how can we be saved?

Philippians 3:7-9   But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.

2 Corinthians 5:21   God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

God has provided us with righteousness!

Romans 6:19b-23   Just as you used to offer yourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness leading to holiness. When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

In this passage we find out that when we were slaves to impurity, wickedness and sin, the result was shame and death. Consequently, when we are slaves to God and righteousness the benefits are holiness and eternal life!

Ephesians 4:22-24   You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

1 Timothy 6:11   But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.

We need God's righteousness in order to be saved. After we are saved we are supposed to pursue righteousness!

BTLN UPDATE - SERGEANT INDUCTION NIGHT

Congrats to Luke Martens, the 30th Sergeant of Btln 3739! Luke officially became Sergeant this Wednesday night at Btln! Ben Jepsen (2006), Jason Hayashi (2007) and Tyson Tiller (2017) were there to present Luke his Jersey! Luke is the 17th Sergeant to receive his jersey.

Congrats also goes out to Jakob! The reigning Winston Champion has his first Helmet of the Btln Season! We are six weeks into the Btln Season and we have a six different Helmet winners!

This week was also Btln Shirt Night! For the first time in Btln history, registration is free! This means that everyone that showed up to Btln left with a free shirt! This year's shirt is the 19th Btln shirt! It is hard to believe that it has been 19 years since the first Btln Shirt!

For the first time this year we played Stickball! It is funny to watch all the different guys take their turn at bat. Jason's Team started strong in the first inning and it looked like they would win in a walk, but they fell apart in the second inning. Ben's team did the opposite. Ben's Team started slow, but had a strong second inning, almost completing the unlikely comeback. Cam's team was the strongest the whole game, winning by one run!

Stickball Final Scores
Cam's Team - 10
Ben's Team - 9
Jason's Team - 7
Noah's Team - 7

Our Bible Study topic was Thankfulness.

2 Corinthians 9:10-15   Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!

What can we be thankful for? God supplies all of our needs, and even gives us extra so that we can be generous with those that don't have as much! Our generosity will result in thanksgiving to God!

We can also be thankful for the surpassing, indescribable grace of God! We should also be generous and share this indescribable gift with those that don't already know about the grace of God!

BTLN UPDATE - MIKE NIGHT

Congrats Mike! This was Mike's first Helmet of the Btln Season! Here we are five weeks into the Btln Season and we don't have a two time winner yet! Usually there is at least one two time winner by October. It is still early, but it looks like the Winston Race will be close like last year.

After Mike Night it is hard not to feel over stimulated! One of the guys said "I feel like I'm living frame by frame". The scores were probably the closest I have ever seen for Mike. Usually there is at least one team that falls way behind or jumps out to a huge lead. This time all four teams were within five points!

Mike Final Scores
Noah's Team - 74
Jason's Team - 71
Dan's Team - 70
Cam's Team - 69

In Bible Study our topic was "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

2 Peter 3:9   The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Ezekiel 18:23   Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign Lord. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?

These passages tell us that God does not anyone to perish in their sin. God is not a tyrant waiting for us to make mistakes. God wants us to turn from our sin and live!

Romans 2:9-11   There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile; but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For God does not show favoritism.

Acts 10:34-35   Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.

Isn't it comforting that God does not show favoritism? It doesn't matter if we are rich, poor, young or old! God values us all the same!

Titus 2:11   The grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.

1 Timothy 4:9-10   This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance. That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe.

God's salvation is for all people! This is the greatest news!

Romans 10:11-13   As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
