BTLN UPDATE - THE THREE B'S

Congrats Isaac! This was Isaac's first Helmet of the Btln season! Alex was in the final two with Isaac. Both Isaac and Alex were taken down on the final round, Isaac making it farther across the gym than Alex, taking the Helmet and the win!

Barq's has been a part of the Three B's for years, But this year it was time for a change. This year we made the switch to Jones Soda with custom Btln labels! The Btln Jones was a big hit! Most of the guys took the Bottles home to put on display.

This year there were 40 guys at the Three B's! The guys devoured 10 large Battalion Baconator pizzas, 4 cases of Jones rootBeer, over 100 Bonuts and two huge pots of Beans!

At the Three B's we are always short on time, so we usually only have time to play three games of MurderBall. In the first game, Ben's team easily Beat my team. The next two games were different, my team winning Both and winning the series 2-1!

Thanks to my mom for making the Bonuts!

Special thanks to all the leaders who have helped out so much in the First Half of the Btln year! We could not have Btln without you!

The Second Half of the Btln year begins on Wednesday, January 10, 2018!

BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Dolan! This was Dolan's very first Helmet! I never get tired of watching a first timer win the Helmet! Dane was there at the end with Dolan and has close been close to winning a lot lately. Dane is overdue for his second win of the year.

This week we had Tyson S. and Uzzie C. visiting from out of town. It was so good to see both of them. Both are missed at Btln!

Our game of the week was a surprise Mike Night! It is always fun to see the guys reaction when they notice the strobe light hanging from the ceiling! There were a few Mike Night rookies, which makes Mike even more exciting! Nathan's Team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, beating the second place team by 16 points!

MIKE NIGHT Final Scores
Nathan's Team - 105
Cam's Team - 89
Noah's Team - 82
Coady's Team - 81

The Bible study topic this week was "The Power of God".

Colossians 1:15-17   The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Hebrews 1:3-4   The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.

Jesus created everything. Could there be a greater demonstration of his power? Not only did Jesus create everything, he also sustains his creation!

Romans 1:16   For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.

1 Corinthians 1:18   For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

1 Corinthians 6:14   By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also.

After his creation (men) rejected him, Jesus needed to die for our sins. But Jesus didn't stay dead! Jesus was raised from the dead by the power of God, so that we could also live again! This new life is available to everyone who believes!

Colossians 1:9-12   For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.

Finally, God strengthens us with his power so that we can live a life worthy of Jesus' sacrifice!

It is the 23rd Battalion Olympics next week! Wednesday November 29th at 7:00 p.m.
Remember, Battalion is like Heaven, there is always room for one more! So bring a friend!

BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Mike! This was Mike's second Helmet of the Btln Season! When we were down to the final two, Caleb close lined Mike! Mike was flat on his back! I don't think I have ever seen anyone go down that fast in Bulldog! Close lining is not legal, so Mike was given a pass on that round. Kolton and Mike went one more round. Mike was able to stay on his feet, and win his second Helmet of the Btln Season!

The Btln game of the week was Glow In The Dark Basketball! This is a game that we only play one or two times a year, so when we play it, it is a novelty. It is hard to keep track of the score when there are two balls and the lights are off, but I think the score was close for most of the game. After our eyes were adjusted to the dark we reset the game and played first to five baskets. Kaylon's team was up 3-0 early, but Deshawn's team clawed back to tie the score at 3-3! In the end, Kaylon's team was too much for Deshawn's team, winning 5-3!

In Bible study our topic was "The way of transgressors is hard."

Proverbs 13:5   The righteous hate what is false, but the wicked make themselves a stench and bring shame on themselves.

Proverbs 13:6   Righteousness guards the person of integrity, but wickedness overthrows the sinner.

Proverbs 13:9   The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out.

Proverbs 13:15   Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.

Proverbs 13:21   Trouble pursues the sinner, but the righteous are rewarded with good things.

Galatians 6:7-8   Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

These verses paint a very sad picture of the life of a transgressor (sinner). Life is hard enough, we don't need to make bad choices that will make life even more difficult for us.

Ephesians 2:1-5   As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.

Thanks to God for his great love and mercy that saved us when we were dead in our transgressions! We don't have to live the life of a transgressor anymore! We can be alive in Christ!

BTLN UPDATE - ROYAL RUMBLE 13

Congrats Luke! Luke is the 2017 Royal Rumble Champion! Twenty-one guys competed in the thirteenth Royal Rumble! There were eight Lightweights (grades 7-9) and thirteen Heavyweights (grade 10-12)!

We always start the Royal Rumble with the Lightweights, and just like last year, the Lightweight Division was over very quickly! The final two in the Lightweight Division were Josh and Isaac. We finished the Lightweight Division with the "Ropes Down". It didn't take Josh long to push Isaac out of the ring. Not an epic battle, but still fun to watch!

Congrats to both Isaac and Josh!

In the Heavyweight Division there were alliances, but not the distinct teams that we saw last year. It is always interesting to watch the Rumble unfold. Every year is a little different. Getting from three guys down to two can take a really long time, but this year both Mike and Jakob went out at the same time, leaving us with only Dylan and Luke! I love the "Final Two-Ropes Down" tradition that we started two years ago. Everyone is watching and cheering for the Final Two! There isn't any place to hide when the ropes are down, so you would think that it would be over quickly, but this year the final two was an epic battle! The final two must have been at least ten minutes, it was crazy! In the end, Luke was able to force Dylan out of the ring! My highlight of the night is always when everyone rushes the new Champion!

Congrats to both Dylan and Luke, it was an amazing finish!

BTLN UPDATE - MIKE 23

Don't look now, but last years Winston Champion is back on top! Jakob is tied with Deshawn for first place in the Winston Standings! Congrats Jakob! This was Jakob's second Helmet of the Btln season. Dylan was there again at the end, but was not able to get the win. Dylan has been close so many times, he is overdue for his first win of the Season!

This week we played MIKE 23! This game has evolved into one of my Btln favourites. MIKE 23 gets better each and every time that we play it. For most of the game, Noah's team had a healthy lead. Just before the last round they were up by ten points! The problem with a large lead is that, the other three teams will gang up on the team that has the lead. In the end, it was Jason's team with the huge come from behind victory!

MIKE 23 Final Scores
Jason's Team - (7)
Ryley's Team - (6)
Noah's Team - (6)
Cam's Team - (-2)

This week Noah led us in the Bible Study! It was so good to hear and watch Noah lead the Bible Study! It has been so amazing to watch Noah grow into a man of God!

Our Bible Study topic was "Treasures on earth"

Ecclesiastes 5:10   Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless.

If money is our goal, we will never have enough!

Matthew 6:19-21   “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Proverbs 23:4-5   Do not wear yourself out to get rich; do not trust your own cleverness. Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle.

All of the nice things of this world will eventually decay or fall apart. It is not bad to have nice things, but our lives should not be consumed with attaining as much as we can on this earth. Our goal should be, to store up treasures in heaven!

Philippians 3:7-8   But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ.

All of the things of this world cannot compare to knowing Christ! And we will have all eternity to get to know Jesus better!

2 Corinthians 8:9   For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.

Jesus gave up his riches so that we could become rich! This is the example that we need to follow!

It is Royal Rumble 13 next week at Btln! Wednesday, November 8th. Don't be late and bring a friend!

BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Josh! This was Josh's first Helmet ever! Jakob was there with Josh at the end. It seems like Jakob is always in the final two or three at the end of Bulldog. I guess that's why Jakob is the reigning Winston Champion! It is always so good to see one of the boys win Bulldog for the first time! A tip of the hat to Josh for his first Helmet!

This week we played Handball for only the second time this year! Not having lines on the floor is a challenge, but Noah has risen to the occasion and set up lines for us. Thanks Noah! The game was actually very close. The score was 19-19 before we went to overtime! In the overtime my team scored three very quickly. The close exciting finish that we usually have wasn't in the cards.

In Bible Study our topic was "Joy"

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18   Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:4   Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

The question we were trying to answer was, "How can we always be joyful?" Or, "How can we rejoice in the Lord always?"

Romans 15:13   May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Galatians 5:22-23   But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Part of the answer is, God wants to fill us with joy! It is not natural for us to be joyful, but one of the fruits of the Spirit that God provides us with, is joy!

Hebrews 12:1   Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

This last passage tells us that Jesus was joyful even though he had to endure the cross. Jesus did not enjoy the pain of the cross. Jesus was joyful because of what his suffering was going to accomplish!

When life gets tough we need to look to our future in eternity with Jesus! This should bring us joy even in difficult circumstances! We are not expected to enjoy the pain that we have to endure in this world. We are asked to look forward to all that Jesus is going to provide, which is more than we can ask for or imagine!

BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Deshawn! Deshawn now has two Helmets. Deshawn has the early lead in the Winston race! Luke and Keegan were there at the end with Deshawn, but it was Deshawn winning for the second time in four weeks!

Our game of the week was Murderball Defender! Murderball Defender is Murderball plus ten Mike 23 exercise balls! It changes the game just enough to change the strategies needed to win. The wins went back and forth, and we ended with a 2-2 game tie! Because the games last longer, we ran out of time. Defender is a lot of fun, and seems to raise the energy level in the gym.

Our Bible study topic this week was Righteousness.

Romans 3:10-12   As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.”

If none of us are righteous, then how can we be saved?

Philippians 3:7-9   But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.

2 Corinthians 5:21   God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

God has provided us with righteousness!

Romans 6:19b-23   Just as you used to offer yourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness leading to holiness. When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

In this passage we find out that when we were slaves to impurity, wickedness and sin, the result was shame and death. Consequently, when we are slaves to God and righteousness the benefits are holiness and eternal life!

Ephesians 4:22-24   You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

1 Timothy 6:11   But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.

We need God's righteousness in order to be saved. After we are saved we are supposed to pursue righteousness!

BTLN UPDATE - SERGEANT INDUCTION NIGHT

Congrats to Luke Martens, the 30th Sergeant of Btln 3739! Luke officially became Sergeant this Wednesday night at Btln! Ben Jepsen (2006), Jason Hayashi (2007) and Tyson Tiller (2017) were there to present Luke his Jersey! Luke is the 17th Sergeant to receive his jersey.

Congrats also goes out to Jakob! The reigning Winston Champion has his first Helmet of the Btln Season! We are six weeks into the Btln Season and we have a six different Helmet winners!

This week was also Btln Shirt Night! For the first time in Btln history, registration is free! This means that everyone that showed up to Btln left with a free shirt! This year's shirt is the 19th Btln shirt! It is hard to believe that it has been 19 years since the first Btln Shirt!

For the first time this year we played Stickball! It is funny to watch all the different guys take their turn at bat. Jason's Team started strong in the first inning and it looked like they would win in a walk, but they fell apart in the second inning. Ben's team did the opposite. Ben's Team started slow, but had a strong second inning, almost completing the unlikely comeback. Cam's team was the strongest the whole game, winning by one run!

Stickball Final Scores
Cam's Team - 10
Ben's Team - 9
Jason's Team - 7
Noah's Team - 7

Our Bible Study topic was Thankfulness.

2 Corinthians 9:10-15   Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!

What can we be thankful for? God supplies all of our needs, and even gives us extra so that we can be generous with those that don't have as much! Our generosity will result in thanksgiving to God!

We can also be thankful for the surpassing, indescribable grace of God! We should also be generous and share this indescribable gift with those that don't already know about the grace of God!

BTLN UPDATE - MIKE NIGHT

Congrats Mike! This was Mike's first Helmet of the Btln Season! Here we are five weeks into the Btln Season and we don't have a two time winner yet! Usually there is at least one two time winner by October. It is still early, but it looks like the Winston Race will be close like last year.

After Mike Night it is hard not to feel over stimulated! One of the guys said "I feel like I'm living frame by frame". The scores were probably the closest I have ever seen for Mike. Usually there is at least one team that falls way behind or jumps out to a huge lead. This time all four teams were within five points!

Mike Final Scores
Noah's Team - 74
Jason's Team - 71
Dan's Team - 70
Cam's Team - 69

In Bible Study our topic was "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

2 Peter 3:9   The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Ezekiel 18:23   Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign Lord. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?

These passages tell us that God does not anyone to perish in their sin. God is not a tyrant waiting for us to make mistakes. God wants us to turn from our sin and live!

Romans 2:9-11   There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile; but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For God does not show favoritism.

Acts 10:34-35   Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.

Isn't it comforting that God does not show favoritism? It doesn't matter if we are rich, poor, young or old! God values us all the same!

Titus 2:11   The grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.

1 Timothy 4:9-10   This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance. That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe.

God's salvation is for all people! This is the greatest news!

Romans 10:11-13   As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
