BTLN UPDATE - THE 21ST BATTALION OLYMPICS

Congratulations to Zach, the 2015 Btln Olympic Champion! Zach is the youngest Olympic Champion we have ever had! Zach is in grade 9! (The previous record was held by Zach Gobbett! He was in grade 10.) For the second year in a row we set a new attendance record for the Btln Olympics! There were 37 competitors plus our Sergeant Ben Nicolson! (It was so good to have Ben back at Btln!) We couldn't get all the names on the triangles or on the posters! BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Nathan! This is Nathan's second Helmet, and his first ever win in British Bulldog! Nathan's first Helmet was when he won the belly flop competition at the pool party in September! It seems so appropriate that our English friend would win British Bulldog!

This week we played Stickball for the first time this year. We have had a hard time trying to teach everyone the rules and strategy of Stickball. I feel like this was the best game of Stickball that we have ever played. I love the four corner/four team games that we play at Btln. I think that Stickball can be as good as Mike and Mike 23. We probably need to play Stickball a little more often.

Stickball Final Scores
Dan's team - 14
Ben's team - 12
Nathan's team - 10
Devin's team - 7

In Bible Study, Ben had us looking at some of the prophecies fulfilled by Jesus.

Isaiah 53

But he was pierced for our transgressions,
    he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
    each of us has turned to our own way;
and the Lord has laid on him
    the iniquity of us all.

He was oppressed and afflicted,
    yet he did not open his mouth;
he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,
and as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.

This was written 700 years before Jesus was born! Only God could plan that far ahead and be perfectly accurate!

 John 19

32 The soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus, and then those of the other. 33 But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. 34 Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.

Luke 23

When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased, because for a long time he had been wanting to see him. From what he had heard about him, he hoped to see him perform a sign of some sort. He plied him with many questions, but Jesus gave him no answer.

There are so many prophesies that Jesus fulfilled (Like where he would be born, what family he would be born into and how he would die.) that he had to be God.

Philippians 2:5-11   In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to deatheven death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Jesus came to earth in the form of a man so that he could die for our sins! This was all a part of God's perfect plan! Nothing that happened to Jesus took God by surprise! God also has a plan for our lives! Nothing that happens to us will take God by surprise! We just need to trust that God is in control!

It is the 21st Battalion Olympics next week! Don't be late!

BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Stephan! Dylan and Stephan were the final two in British Bulldog this week! Both guys battled hard but were both taken down on the last round. Stephan made it five yards further across the gym to take the win and the Helmet!

This week we played Murderball and had two very evenly matched teams! My team took the first two games fairly easily and it looked like we were going to do it again in the third game. We had Ben's team on the ropes before they came storming back for the win to make the series 2-1! With the momentum gained from the comeback win, Ben's team won the next two games pulling ahead 3-2! My team won the final game giving us a tie, which seemed fitting for Remembrance Day.

In Bible study we finished our series on Faith, Hope and Love. In the first two weeks we looked at Faith and Hope, this week we turned our attention to Love.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8   Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

This passage in 1 Corinthians does a very thorough job of explaining what love is and what love is not. The worlds definition of love is the opposite to what is described in this passage.

1 John 4:7-11   Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

In this passage we learn that (1) Love comes from God, (2) God is Love, (3) God showed his Love by sending his only Son to die for us and (4) that we should Love each other because God Loved us!

John 15:13   Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

Romans 5:7-8   Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:10   For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!

In the book of John, Jesus tells us that the greatest way to show Love would be to die for one's friends. When Jesus died for us he took it one step further! He died for us when we were still his enemies so that we could be his friends!

BTLN UPDATE - MIKE 23

Congrats Mitch! This was Mitch's first ever Helmet! It is always exciting to see one of the guys win the Helmet for the first time! Like Dan said, It won't be Mitch's last Helmet!

This time around, Mike 23 was the game of the week! Mike 23 always makes for great pictures! With the balls flying around and the funny looks on everyone's faces the pictures are priceless! I love how the rules change and the scores rise and fall with each mini game that we play. Mike 23 is Btln chaos at its best!

Mike 23 Final Scores
Nathan's team - 8
Ben and Noah's team - 6
Nate's team - 4
Lukas' team - 3

In Bible study we looked at Hope in our mini series Faith, Hope and Love.

1 Corinthians 13:13   And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Romans 8:24b-25   But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.

I have heard it said that the hope of the Bible is a confident expectation. The hope of every Christian should come from the promises found in the Bible.

Titus 3:4-7   But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.

Titus 2:11-13   For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of the great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,

Colossians 1:26-27   The mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people. To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Our hope is eternal life with our savior Jesus Christ!

Is our hope secure? Is our hope trustworthy?

Hebrews 6:17-19   Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.

Hebrews 11:1   Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

God who promised us eternal life cannot tell a lie! Our hope is sure, certain, firm and secure!

1 Peter 1:3-4   Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you.

We have a living hope because we have a living savior!
