BTLN UPDATE - MIKE NIGHT

Congrats Jakob! This was Jakob's second Helmet of the Btln Season! It looks like Jake is going to be a force to be reckoned with for the next few years!

It was Mike Night this week at Btln! It is so much fun to watch the guys play Mike! The atmosphere in the gym is awesome! The guys were pounding on the walls and cheering on their teammates! I love the big bouncy balls that we added last time we played Mike, they add a whole new dimension to the game! Devin's team had the lead most of the game, but that doesn't mean that the scores weren't close or that the game wasn't in doubt.

MIKE NIGHT FINAL SCORES
Devin's team - 29
Drew's team - 27
Jason's team - 26
Ben's team - 20

In Bible study we looked at three parables that Jesus told from the book of Luke. (Luke 15:1-24)

Luke 15:1-2   Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”

Jesus was being criticized for spending time with sinners. Jesus tells the three parables to teach us the value of every person in God's eyes. We are all sinners in need of God's forgiveness! The Pharisees did not realize why the Messiah (Jesus) was coming to earth.

1 Timothy 1:15   Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.

Luke 15:4-6   “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’

In the first of three parables Jesus compares sinners to lost sheep. Jesus lets us know that he is not content if there is even one sheep missing! I love how Jesus talks about the owner of the sheep carrying the sheep home. What an amazing picture Jesus paints of God's love for the lost!

The third parable is the parable of the lost son. A father has a son that takes his inheritance and squanders it on wild living. This lost son is forced to steal food from pigs to keep from starving.

Luke 15:17-24   “When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’ So he got up and went to his father.
“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.
“The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’
“But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.

Again Jesus shows God's love for the lost in this parable! I love how the father runs to his son while he was still a long way off!

Luke 15:7   I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.

Luke 15:10   In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

There is a party in heaven whenever ONE sinner repents!

It is Winterslam (boxing) next week at Btln!

BTLN UPDATE

Congrats Jonathan! Jonathan won Bulldog and now has three Helmets, putting him into a second place tie with Nate and only one win behind Lukas! The race for Winston is so close! The finish is going to be awesome!

The games we play at Battalion are so different when the number of guys change. This week we played Murderball and with the smaller numbers there was a lot more running involved. There is more opportunity to battle back when your team is behind. It was probably the best Murderball we have played all year! My team lost the first three games. We were up early in the second game and probably should have won, but Ben's team battled back to beat us. My team won the fourth game, avoiding the shutout but losing the series 3-1.

In Bible study we looked at the Creation story (Genesis 1:20-28)

Genesis 1:1   In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

In Genesis, when we read about the Creation of the universe, God singles out the earth because he has a special plan for the earth. (The heavens and the earth.)

Genesis 1:14-18   And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.

The sun, moon and stars were created to provide light and to mark seasons, days and years for the earth.

Genesis 1:25-27   God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

God made the animals according to their kinds, but man was made in God's image! Man was the only thing made in God's image! We are by far the most important thing that God created! Even when Adam sinned, God provided a way through Jesus' death and resurrection to fix the broken relationship between God and man! One day we will be able to live with God!

Revelation 21:3-4   And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

It is Mike Night next week!

BTLN UPDATE

First Helmet of the Second Half goes to Nate! Congrats Nate! Nate now has three Helmets for the year, only one behind Lucas! It is going to be a good finish!

This week we played Handball. My team fell behind 7-0 and was never able to battle back. We added Jason to my team but it wasn't enough to recover from the early deficit. The final score was 21 - 14 for Ben's team! (Still a lot of fun though.)

In Bible study we found out that the word of God is.....

Isaiah 40:8   The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.

Psalm 119:89   Your word, Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.

(1) The word of God is eternal.

Psalm 12:6   And the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times.

(2) The word of God is flawless

2 Timothy 3:16-17   All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

(3) The word of God is useful for teaching.

1 Peter 1:23   For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

(4) The word of God can save us.

Psalm 119:9-11   How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

(5) The word of God can keep us from sin.

Psalm 119:97-98   Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long. Your commands are always with me and make me wiser than my enemies.

(6) The word of God can give us wisdom.

Hebrews 4:12   For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

(7) The word of God is living and active.

We are so blessed to be able to study the word of God! We should take advantage of this!
