BTLN MEDALLIONS & MOTTO

This week Chris, Kaleb, Zane and Dalton will all receive their Battalion Medallions and will get the chance to find out what the Btln Motto is. Part of the Btln Motto tradition is that once you have read the Motto you must eat the piece of paper that it is written on.(One of my favourite traditions.)Can't wait for Wednesday night!

BTLN UPDATE - CHRIS IS THE KING!

Chris has clinched Winston and is now without a doubt the King of Btln 3739 for the 2010/11 season! Congratulations Chris! Chris tied the record for the most Helmets in one season with six.(Sam set the record last year.) Chris is also the first Winston Champion to get all of his Helmet wins in Bulldog!
The night started with "Pop n Dogs" and then moved to the final Btln Football of the year. Parker Steadman was the only one to score a touchdown this week! The game was a defensive struggle. Again like previous weeks it didn't rain but it also wasn't very warm.
This year we have been looking at Jesus' life and with this week being the last Bible study of the year it was fitting to end with Jesus' death and resurrection.(It is also convenient that it is Easter this weekend!) (Matthew 27:32 - Matthew 28:10, Mark 15:33 - Mark 16:14, Luke 23:26 - Luke 24:53, John 19:17 - John 20:31)
It is amazing how Jesus stays strong and pure to the very end, enduring all of the abuse both physical and verbal.

Matthew 27:44 In the same way the robbers who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him.

Luke 23:39-43 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: "Aren't you the Christ? Save yourself and us!" But the other criminal rebuked him. "Don't you fear God," he said, "since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong." Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom. Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."

How foolish can man be? These men were dying and they were still abusing the Lord! After watching Jesus on the cross one of the criminals is convinced that Jesus is God and asks for forgiveness! If only our actions could have similar results! Even on the cross Jesus' life changed those around him! And because of what Jesus did on the cross our lives and those around us can also be changed!

Colossians 2:13-15 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

Hebrews 2:14,15 Since the children have flesh and blood, he(Jesus)too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death-that is, the devil-and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.

Just when it looked like Jesus was defeated he rose from the dead and triumphed over death and the devil!

Once again, congratulations to Chris(The King)the 2010/11 Winston Champion!

Next week is our Last Night of the 2010/11 Season! There will be a nine foot party sub from Subway!

Congrats to Rik on his second straight Btln Masters! This was the last Btln Major of the year. Thanks to all the guys that came out even though the weather was not all that great.(The sun doesn't shine on Btln Golf like it does on Btln Football.) Even with the wet weather some of the younger guys mentioned that the Masters was their favourite night of the year! Special thanks to Jeremy, Ryley and Ryan for all of their help! Again, Congrats Rik!

BTLN MASTERS CHAMPIONS

This will be year six for the Btln Masters. Sometimes The Masters has been very predictable and at other times not so much. Will Rik win in back to back years?(Three times for the Brown family!)Only time will tell! Again we are meeting at the church at 6:45 p.m. and will be leaving for Cascade Par Three at 7:00.

BTLN UPDATE

The streak is alive! What streak you ask? It hasn't rained on Btln football for as long as I can remember!(It has been at least fifteen years. We play football two or three times every April.) It looked like the streak was in jeopardy earlier in the day. It hailed, rained and snowed all day long. It was cold, but we actually had the Son shining on us and blue skies!
We started with "Pop n Dogs" again this week, plenty of Menno consumed by the guys! (Probably about 40 Menno dogs this week.)
Another defensive battle on the gridiron this week with only two touchdowns scored. The final score was 14-0 for my team(We had Aaron, Joe and Zach.)beating Owen's team.(Owen had Ryley, Dustin and Chris(The King)on his team.) Harley scored the first touchdown pulling out the first star and Matt wraps up the second star with his touchdown. Third star goes out to the Btln Alumni, I am continually impressed.
After Football we packed into the vehicles and went back to the church for Bible study.(It was way too cold to sit outside!) This week in the Bible study we looked at the Jesus' "Triumphal Entry" into Jerusalem. (Luke 19:28-44, Matthew 21:1-11, Mark 11:1-11 and John 12:12-19)

Matthew 21:6-9 The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, "Hosanna to the son of David!" "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" "Hosanna in the highest!"

Luke 19:37-40 When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: "Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!" "Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!" Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, "Teacher, rebuke your disciples!" "I tell you," he replied, "if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out."

What a sight this must have been! Jesus was finally being honoured.(God will be honoured! If the crowds had not honoured Jesus the rocks would have.) The problem was that it didn't last. The people were shouting "Hosanna in the highest" but only a week later they were shouting "Crucify him!"
The question is, will we honour Jesus with our lives like the disciples? Or will we be like the crowd who could not make up their mind?

Luke 19:41-42 As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, "If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace.

God wants to give you a peace that transcends all understanding!(Philippians 4:6-8)

We finished the night with Bulldog.(Like we always do!) In the end it was Dalton and Zane fighting it out for the Helmet with Dalton pulling out the big win! Congrats Dalton!

Next week we are at Cascade Par Three for the sixth annual Btln Masters! We will meet at the church at 6:45 p.m. and leave for the golf course at around 7:00 p.m.!

BTLN UPDATE

First Football/Pop n Dogs of the year was amazing! There were around thirty of us and 64 Menno dogs, needless to say all the dogs were gone by the end of the night! Dan and four of his guys came from Kelowna to play football with us, thanks for making the trip guys!
The game was close, it ended 7-0 for my team.(we had Ryley, Charlie, Zane, Zach and all of the Kelowna guys.) Jeremy's team(Dan, Aaron, Joe and Chris were all on Jeremy's team.) came close several times but could not break through our defense. Zane scored the only touchdown of the game earning the games first star. Second star goes out to Zach who put pressure on the quarterback all game long forcing bad throws that turned into turnovers. Third star goes out to the Kelowna guys for their play on the field as well as for making the trip!
We decided to do the Bible study at the field rather than going back to the church, it was going to be easier that way. Jeremy was leading the Bible study this week and he read us a couple of stories. One was from Luke 12:13-21 it is the parable of the rich fool. A man came to Jesus and asked him to tell his brother to divide the inheritance. Jesus' response was...

Luke 12:15 - "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."

It is so easy to get caught up in gaining possessions! It is not bad to have nice things but we should not make it our focus! We need to remember to keep God in the center of our lives!
Jesus then goes on to tell the parable of the rich man. The story ends with God telling the rich man...

Luke 12:20 - "You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?"

All the things that the rich man worked for would not be important after he died. We don't know when our lives will end, live for God now!

We ended the night with Bulldog on the field. We used glow sticks as markers because by this time it was dark. It was tough to judge distances in the dark which made it extra tough for Zach who had to start in the middle. Because we were playing on grass tackling became part of Bulldog adding an extra dimension to the game. Chris and Stevie were the last two with Stevie coming out on top taking his third Helmet of the year! Congrats Stevie!

Next week we are back at the high school field for Pop n Dogs and Btln Football!
