LAST NIGHT 2010

It is getting late but I still have Nos running through my veins so I may as well do my blogging now.(I won't be able to sleep for a while anyways.) What a night! There is so much to do and so much going on that I don't appreciate the night until I get home and ponder all the things that we did. I am never sure how many guys are going to show, but once again God filled the gym!(He never ceases to amaze me!)
It is tradition to play Murderball on Last Night and I am never one to break tradition, so guess what we played? Jeremy's team took the first game but the second and third belonged to my team. It is nice to finish the year on a winning note! (The second game was back and forth, it was a classic, both teams had a chance to win.)
The nine foot party sub was next(Thanks to Jeremy and Joel for cutting and cleaning it up!)on the nights agenda. After all the guys had their piece of the sandwich it was time for the 2010 Btln grad ceremonies. First the guys received their copy of the Btln Motto. I love the reaction of the grads when they read the Motto for the first time, it is priceless. Next was the Btln Bible presentation, it is always my favourite part of the night.
The 2010 year end photo was next and then on to Bulldog. Dalton started in the middle and it was no easy feat as there were quite a few Alumni that are never easy to take down. At one point Drew was pushed to the ground and was sliding on his stomach. He came up a little short of the wall so he did this front crawl swimming motion to get to the wall, it was awesome!(There is no quit in Drew, that is why he is a two time Winston Champion!) Zane took the final Helmet of the season to bring his total to two. Congrats Zane! Sam Schiesser clinched Winston a couple of weeks ago but did not take possession of Winston until tonight. Congrats Sam! You earned it!
Blake did a quick promo for the Pines and then after our circle prayer our night at the gym was over!
21 of us piled into three vehicles and headed over to Castlegar for Boston Pizza to cap off the night.(We ran into blinding snow on the way over, it had me praying for safety!) While there, we gave the grads their Btln Medallions and Alumni shirts. Always good food and good times at Boston Pizza! And before we knew it the 2009/10 Btln season had come to an end! Can't wait until next year!

BTLN BIBLES

This year is our ninth year of handing out grad Bibles! After tomorrow night Btln 3739 will have given out 35 Bibles! It is something that I look forward to every year, it is our way of saying thank you to the grads for their help. Take a look at the pictures, it is a very impressive group of guys! I only wish that we had taken more pictures of the earlier grad classes.
Missing from these pictures are;
2002 - Justin Bekker, Devan England, Ryley Heppner
2003 - Joe Kraftchick, Owen Spisak
2004 - Tim Feenstra, Mike Hughes, Kenny Johnson, Brad Pauls, Justin Thompson

2 Timothy 2:1-3 You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

BTLN PICTURES

Our traditional week long salute to Last Night on the blog continues as we take a look at the group pictures from the last five years. Can't believe that it has been six years since we started taking these pictures. Sammy, Parker, Sam and Owen would have been in grade seven the first time we took one of these team pictures. Time flies when you are having fun!
By the way can you put the pictures in the proper order?(Oldest to newest.)

9 FOOT PARTY SUB!

That's right, nine feet of party sub from Subway! That is plenty of sub to go around! After we are done at the gym the grade eleven and twelves will be heading over the mountain to Boston Pizza in Castlegar. It is a lot of food for one night but the next time we get Btln food will be at the May Long and that is still three weeks away!

Make sure to bring your appetite and a friend!

BTLN MEDALLION

One of my favourite traditions from Last Night is when the grads receive their Battalion Medallion. Sam Schiesser, Parker Steadman and Owen Knopp will all get their Medallion Wednesday night at Boston Pizza.(Sam Jepsen already has his because he completed the Memory Work.) These guys will join the other nearly fifty Btln Alumni and fifteen Christian music celebs. Congrats guys!

SAM IS THE CHAMP!

With only one week to go Sam Schiesser has clinched the Btln 3739 Winston Championship! Congrats Sam! We here at the blog salute you! Sam has also set a new record with six Helmet wins in a Btln season!(Drew had the old record with five Helmet wins.) With one week to go Sam can add to his record total. Congrats also goes out to Zach and Stevie, either of them could actually tie Sam with six total Helmets with a win this week. Sam would win the Championship because he has won two Btln Majors which is the first tie breaker. Again Congratulations Sam!

BTLN UPDATE

Last football of the year! Can't believe how fast the year has gone! We started the night with Menno and Gatorade, always a fabulous way to start! Thanks to Devin for cooking up the Menno. Last week we had 48 Menno dogs, this week we had 64 and not one left!
This week at football Owen's team was quick six. Owen had a touchdown catch on our first play of the game! After that the offense stalled as Jeremy's team scored two to go up 2-1. (Trying to remember who scored for Jeremy, I'm thinking Dan D. and possibly Dartagnan.) Owen's team couldn't cross half until another big play(quick six)this time Nathan Ball or was it Kaleb, anyway one big play and the game was tied 2-2. We went to overtime with Owen's team first on offense. Owen had a big catch to put us on the two yard line and then Sammy J. caught the go ahead touchdown! Next up Jeremy's team seemed to struggle until Jeremy made a big throw to Dalton S. in the back of the end zone to tie the game at 3-3. It was a fitting end to Battalion football 2010.
In Bible study this week we looked back on the last year. Our theme this year was "How great is our God!". This year we looked at God's greatness in many ways; in the creation of the world, the flood of Noah, and the story of Job. We also looked at God's faithfulness, wisdom, justice and his grace. Here are some passages that we looked at this year.

Psalm 104:1 - Praise the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty.

Habakkuk 3:2a - Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, O Lord.

Isaiah 28:29 - All this also comes from the Lord Almighty, wonderful in counsel and magnificent in wisdom.

Finished the night with Bulldog, it is awesome on the grass!(No hard floors or walls!) Just like any other night there were big hits and guys going down hard, but they always get back up! Sam and Dalton were the last two guys standing and after a couple more big hits Dalton emerged the victor. Congrats Dalton!

Last Night next week! 9 foot Party Sub from Subway! Remember Battalion is like heaven there is always room for one more!

POP N DOGS AND BTLN FOOTBALL PART 2

Football and Menno are two Btln staples. We have eaten Menno at the Pool Party, Btln Baseball, Three B`s, May Long, Creationfest, Pop n Dogs (at the skate park.) and now at Btln Football. We play football at The Director`s Cup, there is the Football Toss in The Btln Olympics and all month long in April.(Not to mention Sunday afternoon football.) So putting them together was a no brainer! This is our last week of football and then next week is Last Night back at the gym. Once again we will be starting shortly after six. Don't be late if you want some Menno!

Battalion 3739, more fun than you can handle on your own, so share it with a friend!

BTLN FOOTBALL TAILGATER (POP N DOGS)

I'm not sure why it took us so long to add a tailgater to Btln football but I'm glad we finally figured it out. It started around 6:15 and at around 6:45 all 48 Menno dogs were gone! When we first arrived I realized that I had forgotten ketchup and mustard, a vital part of any tailgate party. We phoned Jeremy but realized that he wouldn't be arriving any time soon. I suggested that we should go to the house across the street and ask the people that lived there if we could borrow their ketchup and mustard, not expecting anyone to actually do it. But Blake thought that it was a good idea so he went over and asked, and much to our surprise he came back with ketchup and mustard in hand!
After Pop n Dogs we started training camp for The 2010 Director's Cup. The teams were even as both teams marched the ball down the field but were unable to score in the first half. In the second half the offenses took over. Justin scored first putting our team up 1-0. Next time down the field Stevie caught a touchdown pass to put us up 2-0. Jeremy and Blake's team rallied with a couple of big catches by d-Pod and Zane to move the ball into the red zone. Luke finished the drive with a big touchdown catch to make the score 2-1. But they ran out of daylight before they could tie the game. The game finished 2-1.
Usually after football we race back to the church for Bible study but this time we decided to stay at the field. We read the Easter story and looked at Barabbas(The murderer that was released from prison instead of Jesus.)and how he certainly did not turn down the offer to go free. Why would we do any different? Jesus has taken our place as well! Why would we not accept the freedom that Christ has paid for?

Hebrews 2:3a - How shall we escape if we ignore such a great salvation?

Galatians 5:1a - It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.

Romans 6:18a - You have been set free from sin.

John 8:34-36 - Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."

Next up was Bulldog on the field. (Jeremy set up some cones) Rik started in the middle and after a few rounds and some big hits Stevie came up with his fifth Helmet of the year! Congrats Stevie!
M.M.A. was popular at the beginning of the year and this week it made a return to Btln 3739. Nearly everyone took a turn, including Jeremy trying to take Justin and Nathan by himself. Sam S. is undefeated among the boys and Jeremy is the leader that has taken on all challengers and is still undefeated.

Only two weeks left! Lets make the most of them! Next week we are back at the high school field for Pop n Dogs and football and then the following week is Last Night back at the church for games and a 9 foot party sub from Subway!

Battalion 3739 will be bringing it for the next two weeks!

Remember Battalion is like Heaven, there is always room for one more! So bring a friend!

POP N DOGS AND BTLN FOOTBALL!

What happens when you combine two Btln events? I can only imagine that plenty of good times will be the result! We will be at the high school field eating Menno, drinking Gatorade and playing football! Arrive early so that you can have your fill of Menno and so that we can play football before it gets dark. After football we will finish the evening at the church.(We need to play Bulldog.) Your parents can pick you up there. I will be at the field shortly after 6:00 p.m.

Remember, Battalion is like Heaven, there is always room for one more, so bring a friend!
