P-DUB

 


So many encouraging passages to choose from, this is one of my favourites. (This passage is part of the memory work list)

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18, For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words.

This passage is amazing! Think about it, one generation of Christians will not have to die! It could be us! Even if we do die, God will be in the clouds ready to guide us home! What a comforting thought! Another thought, we will all be raptured at the same time, what a reunion waits for us! All of our friends and family members that have accepted Christ and have gone before us will be there! And last but certainly not least, we will be with our Lord and Saviour forever!

Only God could plan a get together like this! How great is our God!

WINTERSLAM 2010

 


Can't believe that it is our fifth Winterslam! Good news to those trying to win the belt, Steve Feenstra, the two time reigning Champion is not eligible for this years Slam! Who will take the belt? Only time will tell. Again this year we will have Heavyweight and Lightweight divisions. Make sure to come early so that we can get started on time.

BTLN UPDATE

 

 

 


So this week we played the inaugural game of S*A*M, and it was amazing! S*A*M is Murderball in the dark! We purchased some murderballs that glow in the dark and glow sticks. We taped glow sticks to the floor at the center line and each guy had one taped to his non-throwing arm.(Two different colors for the two different teams.) Visually S*A*M is one of the best games that we play, it was awesome! S*A*M is one of those games like Mike that we will probably only play a couple times a year but it is one of those games that guys will look forward to. Good on ya Sam!
In Bible study Jeremy talked about God's incredible grace and how we can't earn it.

Ephesians 2:8,9 - For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast.

Romans 4:4,5 - Now when a man works, his wages are not credited to him as a gift, but as an obligation. However, to the man who does not work but trusts God who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness.

He talked about how we are always trying to add something to Christ's finished work.

Galatians 3:3 - Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort?

God has done it all for us, we just need to accept his perfect gift! Remember, Jesus said "It is finished"!

We left the glow sticks on the floor and on our arms so that we could play Bulldog in the dark! We left the doors open so that it wasn't as dangerous but still visually awesome! Guys didn't move quite as fast but it was still sweet! After the dust had cleared Owen had his first Helmet of the year! Congrats Owen!

After we were done at the gym the grade elevens, twelves and leaders all adjourned to the Station for a planning meeting and some food. There is always more food than planning but we expect that. Good times all around!

Next week is Winterslam!(This time for sure!) Remember Battalion is like Heaven, there is always room for one more! So bring a friend!

SAM, THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT!

 


We were supposed to have Winterslam this week but the gloves that we ordered are going to be a day late. So Winterslam is going to be a week late, but in it's place we have a new game called SAM! What is SAM you ask? All I'm going to say is that you don't want to miss out! If you want to find out you need to be there Wednesday night! Why does this game have the name SAM? If you invent a game and we play it, we will name it after you!(Invented by SAM Jepsen.)(Like Mike and Mike 23, invented by Mike Hughes.)

NON-COM MEETING

 


It is a little late for our Non-Com meeting, but is it ever to late to go to the Station(upstairs) to eat some free food?(Ya I said free!) There is usually more visiting than planning but that doesn't mean that we don't get anything done. A lot of the crazy ideas at Battalion had their birth at a Non-Com meeting. Pretty sure the first time we talked about a web sight(this blog) for Battalion was at a N.C. meeting. Anyways, the meeting is this Wednesday after Battalion. Who is invited? All leaders and grade eleven and twelves.

P-DUB

 


Today the 2010 Torch Relay came through Grand Forks and it got me thinking about a couple of passages.

1 Corinthians 9:24,25 - Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.

Life is a race, we need to run in such a way as to get the prize!

Hebrews 12:1b - Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

Two things, first, the race is not going to be easy, it is going to take perseverance. Second, the race has been marked out for us! God has set the path for our life, we just need to follow it!

2 Timothy 4:7,8 - I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day-and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

Hopefully at the end of our life we can say with Paul, that we have fought the good fight, finished the race and kept the faith!
Of course we can't do it on our own without Gods help. Paul said "No, I worked harder than all of them-yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me."(1 Corinthians 15:10b)

With Gods help we can run the race and finish it!

So far we have three guys that are working hard on the verses. Zach gave me all 119 points this last week! I hope that this will inspire some other guys to get started. It would be awesome if some of the Alumni would do the verses with us! (I said us because I am planning on doing it.) I know that you are all busy but I am hopeful that some of you will join us!

BTLN UPDATE

 

 

 

 


What is the chaos that you see in the pictures? It's Mike 23! Why 23 you ask? We weren't sure if it was 2 or 3 so we called it 23. (Hey, I didn't say that it made sense.) Mike 23 started with one beach ball(I think it lasted about 30 seconds), now we play with five exercise balls, ten murderballs and one Zorb! The Zorb was added this time and only for the last couple rounds. Not sure what we will add next time but consensus was that we should play it more often.
In the Bible study we talked about Gods justice and how he is completely just.

Romans 3:25,26 - God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left sins committed beforehand unpunished - he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.

What an amazing passage! As a just judge, God had to condemn us because of our sin, but as our saviour he was able to justify us! We only need to accept his precious gift!

Isaiah 30:18 - Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!

Quite often the passages that talk about Gods justice also talk about his love, grace and compassion. If only we could be so balanced. What a great God we serve!

Zach G. was the B-dog this week and after a few rounds it was down to Stevie and Zac W. for the Helmet. Stevie gained about two more yards than Zac did and took the win! Congrats Stevie!

Uncle Tim found this riddle in a magazine and I figured I would share it with you. Leave your answers in the comments.


This puzzle was written by a lady in California in 1880 in response to
a gentleman in Philadelphia, who had said that he would pay $1,000 to
anyone who could write a puzzle that he couldn’t solve. He failed to do
so, and paid the lady $1,000 (a great sum at that time). The answer is
one word, with five letters, and only appears four times in the Scriptures!
By the way, an eight year old boy figured out the puzzle. Are you up to

BTLN UPDATE

 

 

 

 


We were talking about Handball at the Dubber after Battalion and we came to the realization that Handball is Murderball and Bulldog all wrapped up into one game. You throw balls at each other and there are scrums(dog piles)all over the place! Two of the best games played together at the same time! Handball was a lot of fun tonight, it just seemed like everyone was into it. With three balls I don't even try to keep score anymore but it always comes down to last goal wins anyways. Walsh and I were defending one net and Sam S. and Zach were defending the other net, it is always tough to play goal or defense, you end up taking a beating. For the second week in a row my team beat Jeremy's, looks like 2010 is going to be a good year! Chris and Kaleb were unstoppable this week, it is good to see them take control.
In the squad meetings we talked about God's great wisdom and how he wants to share his wisdom with us.

Proverbs 2:6 - For the Lord gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Isaiah 28:29 - All this also comes from the Lord Almighty, wonderful in counsel and magnificent in wisdom.

Love this passage, wonderful in counsel and magnificent in wisdom!

Psalm 111:10 - The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.

What should this wisdom look like? One more passage.

James 3:17 - But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

Finished the night with Sammy in the middle for Bulldog. The game was quick with Sammy in the middle, there were four guys caught in the first round! I wonder what the record is for quickest game?(number of rounds) Anyways it came down to Sam S. and Zach for the Helmet with Zach coming out on top! Congrats Zach!

You have heard it said that nothing in life is free, and in most cases this is true, but not at Battalion. You can win a free trip to Creationfest! All you have to do is memorize those verses!

CHRIS AND SPENCER'S

 

 


I had the privilege of going to Chris and Spencer's place this afternoon for their home dedication. Just in case you don't know, Habitat for Humanity helped Chris and Spencer's family get into a new house! What an exciting time for their family! God through Habitat has provided a house, How Great is our God! This brings to mind a passage.

Ephesians 3:20 - Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

God also wants to provide a place for us when we reach heaven, the blessings he gives us on this earth are only taste of what is to come when we reach heaven.

Philippians 3:20,21 - But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

Remember our citizenship IS in heaven and God has provided a place there for you and me!

Battalion in 2010 Night 1

well since Lance is asleep at the wheel i thought i would post about the FIRST BATTALION OF 2010!!! Its always a treat to be able to attend a regular night!

Well the night started off with guys hanging out, shooting hoops, and dressing up from the latest lost and found, which i find very amusing haha!

Once we lined up Lance shared some news about the new year and what guys can expect (see earlier post on what to expect) and our Sargent from 2007 Jason Hayashi received his Sargent Jersey!!! this means that next year me and whoever the sarg is next year will get a jersey! im stoked they are pretty rad!

we then broke up into our groups and went into some stories of the Old Testament that showed God Greatness-Read Genesis 1:1-2, Genesis 7:13-20, Exodus 14:21-22, Judges 16:26-30, 1 Samuel 17:4-7, 14, 41-51. after reading we listed some ways that God is great not only through the Bible but in our lives today as well!

next up was the battalion fan favorite MURDERBALL! i had played murderball on the 27th with a lot of guys older than me but i have to say that murderball was not that much easier playing the boys last night! we had Lance, Charlie, Mike, David, and I on one team. Jeremy, Devin, Jason, and Zach were on the other! (as far as alumni goes i think that was everyone!) the first game we smoked jers team, but then every game after that the wins went back and forth ending with Lances team ahead! the games for the most part were very even which was sweet! Player of the game definitely goes to Charlie Langis, the man was on fire!

After that we headed down to the room and discussed God's greatness. I was blessed to be able to lead the guys in a short study on God's greatness and challenged everyone to really take to heart the greatest thing God has ever done (i would argue anyway) which was sending his son to die for us!-Luke 2:1-20, Matthew 27:27-31

We then ended with a good ol game of Bulldog having Stephen start in the middle! after some time he finally got enough guys to get us all down! ending with our very own Sargent Sammy Jepsen! nice work Zej keep up the good work bro! Underdog goes to Zach "ATTACK" Gobbet, who could have taken me down if i was not ready for him!

we then made our way down to A&W shared some food and laughs. a great way to end a great night! thanks again to lance and jer for heading the night up and working hard, it is appreciated! it was great to be able to make it to the first night of 2010, cant wait to see how the rest of the year goes!

The second half starts this week and it can be like a race. So many fun things to get done in such a short time! The second half includes, Winterslam(boxing), The Ping Pong Tourney, Brigade Night, Hockey Night at Btln, Spring Football, The Masters(golf), Last Night, The May Long Camp out, Pop n Dogs and Creationfest! The second half does not take a back seat to the first half!

Remember, Battalion is like heaven, there is always room for one more! So bring a friend!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

 


At first glance Calvin's statement seems absurd but as a Christian we are perfect as far as our standing is concerned! When God looks at us, all he can see is Jesus.

Hebrews 10:14 - because by one sacrifice he(Jesus)has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.

Notice that we are perfect but are being made holy. Being made holy indicates that as far as our state on this earth is concerned it is a process. The thing is, it is God that is making us holy, we just have to let him!

Philippians 1:6 - Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Remember it is God that began this good work and it is God that will complete it!
So as far as new years resolutions are concerned we all have something that we need to work on, but we need to let God do the work!

How great is our God!
