BTLN ALUMNI 2009!

 

 

 


First I would like to thank the Jepsens for hosting Alumni night!(That makes it four years in a row!) We appreciate your hospitality!
I will never forget the first Alumni Night and how every time someone walked into the old kitchen there was a big cheer. Every year is different, but when you have that many old friends together in the same place then every year is special. This year Dan and Phil brought some of the guys from 3445. You guys are always welcome!
Once everyone arrived we played around ten games of Murderball. It always amazes me how fast the games are. The teams started uneven so we traded Jason after four games and then when Kenny showed up we traded Jason back. (Pretty sure Jason was undefeated) After Murderball we played Bulldog. Kevin and Sammy started in the middle (Kevin won last year at Alumni and Sammy is the Sarge.) and after a few rounds there were three left; Owen Spisak, Dalton Erixon and Sam Schiesser. All three were stopped but Sam had more forward progress. Sam wins again!
Next we went to Jepsens and just sat around and talked. (My favourite part of the evening.) My highlight of the night was watching Ryley choke back a Brussels sprout. Funniest thing I have seen in a long time!
Last year I quoted this passage, figured it was worth doing again. (Unofficial passage of the Btln Alumni)

Hebrews 12:1,2 - Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

The fifth annual Battalion Alumni Night is only 364 days away! December 27th 2010!

Again it is on Dec.27 at 7:00 P.M. at the church gym. After Murderball and Bulldog we will head over to Jepsen's to resume the party. It is just over a day away!

GOOD NEWS OF GREAT JOY!

 


When the angel of the Lord appeared to the shepherds he said "I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people."
It is easy to be distracted at Christmas and forget where our true source of joy should come from. Time spent with family and friends is important and can bring joy but it often falls short of our expectations. The gifts and the decorations are nice but the joy that they bring isn't lasting.

Luke 2:10,11 - But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.

With good news like this we should all have great joy! The circumstances around us will not matter!

Hebrews 12:2 - Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning it's shame, and sat down at the right hand of God.

Think about it, Jesus endured the cross knowing the joy that it would bring us! So there you have it, Jesus birth, death and resurrection should bring us great joy! The King of Heaven and Earth was born, lived, died and rose again for you and me so that we could spend eternity with him!

How great is our God!

It is amazing to look back at the first half and see all the things that we have done! First night and a trip to B.P., The Pool Party, The Lions trip(and the Director's Cup Championship), Btln Baseball under the lights, The Royal Rumble, The Btln Olympics and the Three B's! So much fun and so much more to come in the second half!

4TH ANNUAL BTLN ALUMNI!

 

 

 


The biggest night of the year on the Btln 3739 calender is only a week away! It is the fourth annual Battalion 3739 Alumni Night! Like the last three years we will meet at the church gym at 7:00 P.M. on December 27th and then at around 8:30 P.M. we will take the party to Jepsen's for some food, games and hot tubbing!

WINSTON STANDINGS

 


The first half is over and time to update the Winston standings. After nine weeks we had five Helmet winners, now after fifteen weeks we have seven Helmet winners. It seems like there are more guys that have a shot at winning this race. Anyways here are the standings.

three B's

 

 


what are the three B's? this year they were the Battalion Baconator, Bean pot and rootBeer. if you showed up fifteen minutes late the Beans and Baconator were gone(right devin?), totally gone, quite amazing! after filling our faces we headed outside to play a game with two huge inflataBle Balls. it was a relay, you had to roll the Ball with one of your teammates in the Ball while trying to avoid the other Ball, good times. After the Ball game we played Bulldog with kaleB starting in the middle. noBody moves very fast outside on the ice But it doesn't make it any easier to catch anyone. the last two were sam s. and stevie, with stevie getting his second win in the last three weeks! congrats stevie! we ended the night with homemade donuts for dessert and Before we knew it the first half was over!

congrats to roBBie on Bringing five friends and getting his d.q. gift certificate!

BTLN UPDATE

 


Hard to believe that we only have one more night left in the first half, it feels like the year is flying by. This week we had a lot of Alumni back in town, always love it when the old guys show up! The example that you set when you show up is amazing! By just showing up you let the younger guys know that you still think that Btln is important. Josh and Mike Trainer were in town, we thank God for giving Josh safety while he was in Afghanistan.
This week we talked about how God wants to answer our prayers, and how he intercedes in our prayers and that as a great and powerful God he has the ability to answer all of our prayers.

Psalm 34:15 - The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry.

Romans 8:26b - We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us.

Romans 8:27b - The Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.

A lot of times we will not know what to pray for but the Spirit will help us and when he does our prayers will match God's will! What a great God we serve! One more passage.

Philippians 4:6,7 - Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

No matter how God answers our prayers his peace will guard our hearts and minds!

With all of the Alumni around murderball was the game of the week. The balls were moving a little quicker than what I am used to but I guess it was a good warm up for Alumni Night. My team got schooled, we had a few guys go down our quit but it didn't matter we were outmatched.
Stevie was in the middle for B-dog and after a couple of rounds Jeremy sacrificed himself to help him out. Soon after all of the leaders and Alumni were caught. A couple of rounds later Kaleb emerged the winner! It is Kaleb's first win of the year. Congrats Kaleb!

One more week left before Christmas! It's The Three B's, bring your appetite and a friend!

P-DUB

 


It seems a little late but Grand Forks finally has snow. Looking at the snow got me thinking about a passage from Psalms.

Psalms 51:7b - Wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.

Notice that it is God that needs to do the washing. There isn't anything that I can do to wash my sins away. Looking at the snow it is hard to imagine that anything can be made whiter than snow. The glare off the snow on a sunny day can be blinding. I suppose after God is done with us his goodness should shine through us!(Remember God's glory blinded Paul. Acts 9)

Isaiah 1:18 - "Come now, let us reason together," says the Lord. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool."

Think about it, God asks us to reason together with him! That is amazing! The God of heaven isn't going to force me to do anything. He is going to try and reason with me! If God is going to give us advice it would be wise to listen. All we need to do is accept his forgiveness and he will make our sins as white as snow!

God has made us whiter than the snow!

MIKE NIGHT - BTLN UPDATE

 


Stevie wins his first Helmet of the year at Mike Night! Congrats Stevie! What's Mike Night you ask? Mike is an amazing game invented by Mike Hughes. The game has changed over the years but the basic ideas were invented by Mike. A Strobe light, a few super balls with blinking lights and this year two lighted footballs are required to play. Everyone is pumped when they see the strobe hanging from the roof of the gym, it is one of the best nights of the year!
Aaron had the guys reading about Jonah in the squad meetings. Aaron pointed out how the people of Nineveh all repented from the greatest to the least and that when God saw that they had turned from their evil ways, he had compassion and did not bring upon them the destruction he had threatened. God wants to do the same for us, we just need to accept his forgiveness!

1 John 1:7 - But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

1 John 1:9 - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

How do we end Mike Night? The same way we end every night,(well almost every night)with Bulldog! Only difference is that we play Bulldog with the strobe!(Drew would be proud!) Bulldog with the strobe can be a little sketchy but isn't that part of going to Battalion? Often when I think of some of the things that we do at Battalion I think of a quote by the Riddler in the movie Batman Forever, "Was that over the top? I can never tell." Anyways Congrats again to Stevie!

Making the collages for the Btln birthdays brings back so many good memories! With nine guys, December is second only to September. Ya I win! The Christmas season can be busy, but we don't want to forget about you or your Birthday! God bless you and Happy Birthday!

NOVEMBER, A MONTH IN REVIEW

 


The 2009/10 Battalion 3739 season is nearly half over already! Time flies when you are having fun! November began with Battalion Headquarters (this blog) reaching 30,000 hits! I am excited about the support that Battalion receives, especially from the Alumni, it is very encouraging! Later in the month we gave away two D.Q. gift certificates for bringing five friends, we played stickball, handball and murderball and had a least one random Bible check. Btln 3739 ended the month with a bang as we finished with the 15th Btln Olympics.
Battalion 3739, more fun than you can handle on your own, so share it with a friend!

P-DUB

 


After a big night like the Btln Olympics I always think back to the preparation involved and how we could do it better next time. The first time we did The Royal Rumble their was a lot of preparation and a ton of expectation. It is the one night that sticks out when I think about beating expectations. This had me thinking about how God is always prepared and how he always beats expectations!

1Corinthians 2:9 - However, as it is written: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind conceived what God has prepared for those who love him"

You know for sure that when God does something he doesn't forget anything or have to look back to see what he could have done better! The things God is going to do for us are so good that only God could think of them! What an amazing God!

Ephesians 3:20,21 - Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
